Destinations

Hook Island

Manta Ray Bay

Tucked into the northern side of Hook Island, Manta Ray Bay is one of the Whitsundays' standout snorkelling locations. Beneath the clear turquoise water you'll find coral formations, schools of tropical fish and an impressive variety of marine life, all surrounded by the rugged, undeveloped landscape of Hook Island.

Accessible only by boat, it's exactly the kind of place Secret Whitsundays is about — drop onto a public mooring, grab your snorkel and underwater camera and explore at your own pace. Despite the name, manta rays aren't guaranteed visitors, but when conditions are right, the underwater experience here can be spectacular.

Less timetable. More underwater. This is the Whitsundays worth discovering

Whitsunday Island

Hill Inlet

At the northern end of Whitehaven Beach, Hill Inlet is where the Whitsundays become almost surreal. Serpentine ribbons of luminous aqua water weave their way between brilliant white silica sandbanks, constantly reshaped by the tides into patterns that are never quite the same twice.

Approach by boat through the turquoise waters of the inlet, head ashore at Tongue Bay and climb to the lookout for the iconic view from above. Then take your time exploring the beaches and shallows below — one of those rare places that's every bit as extraordinary in person as it looks in photographs.

Wild, shifting and unmistakably Whitsundays.

Between Hayman and Hook Islands

Langford Island

Stretching between Hook Island and Hayman Island, Langford Island is a tiny slice of Whitsundays paradise, known for its long white sand spit, crystal-clear shallows and beautiful fringing reef. As the tide changes, the sandbank transforms, creating an idyllic place to pull up, swim and explore.

Slip beneath the surface and snorkel along the fringing coral reef, where tropical fish, rays and turtles can often be encountered amongst the coral and seagrass. Back on shore, wander the sand spit, find a quiet spot for a picnic or simply float in the warm turquoise water.

Small island. Clear water. Reef at your feet. Explore it at your own pace.
